Staying Busy

I know that we are all sitting at home doing almost nothing. I am super guilty of that, and I am sick of it. We already live a pretty isolated life here on the boat, even being on the hard we don’t come into contact with very many people. Now we are distancing ourselves even more just so we don’t get sick, and not necessarily because we are terrified of getting sick. I mean that is a concern but the fear of getting sick is grossly out weighed by the fact that getting sick could set the refit project back significantly. Ain’t nobody got time for that…

All of that being said, now that we are intentionally spending less time with people, we needed to give ourselves something to do. Let’s be real here, we don’t want to work every day of the week. It’s nice to have a day that doesn’t involve digging into the walls or running power tools or whatever a project entails. So, what have we decided we are going to do to occupy our free time? I’m glad you asked! We have come up with a defined Chores Chart. We had a mental note of things that needed to be done on a daily basis, like dishes and making our beds, but there is still a list of household things we need to take care of. That’s where the Chores Chart comes into play. We sat down, came up with all of the tasks that needed to be done on a daily and weekly basis, and then divided them up.

Some of you might be thinking, well why the heck wouldn’t you already have a Chore Chart? I know that I’ve been to friend’s houses where their mom LOVES Pinterest and has a chalkboard and everything… Our family isn't like that, and we have never exactly been in a living situation where we needed to have one either. We still had things that were important and needed needed to be done regularly, like dishes and cleaning bathrooms, but nothing that I would say was extremely critical to being comfortable in our home. Now that we are in much tighter quarters it is even more important that we make sure we pick up after ourselves. I don’t know about you, but having a written out list, where you can see the things that you have to do, helps keep me motivated. I do like to be able to cross things off of a list, it makes me feel very accomplished. Do you feel the same way? I’m curious to know what you all think.

If you’re interested in the chart format that we decided to use, I will link the blank chart to the end of this post. It’s pretty cute, and we just pulled it off the internet.

I know that companies, especially social networking platforms, are capitalizing on the fact that everyone is staying at home and self quarantining. I have seen loads of posts about spreading cheer and whatnot during these stressful times, and I also know that there is an exponentially greater amount of people on their phones, computers, TV’s, etc. I get the whole well I have nothing better to do, so I’m just going to bounce back and forth between all of my social media apps. As a family we have decided to actually back down our time on social media and our phones. We don’t want to let ourselves fall into a hole especially during this time and with our current living situation. We aren’t going to have the same access to internet here in relatively short order so backing off our screen time now, I believe, is just going to be good practice for later on down the road. On top of that, a huge part of starting this adventure is so that we can spend more time together as a family, enjoying each others company. It’s really hard to do that when you are checked out and just scrolling through your feed. So here is too staying happy and healthy. Cheers!

If you haven’t already, make sure to check out our YouTube channel! We have two videos out with another one coming on Friday! Want to see it earlier? Join the Crew and become a member of our Patreon! I’ll put all the links below!

Thanks,

Syd
